What we do

Urban Machine pioneers sustainable wood reclamation. Our robotic solution removes metal fasteners from C&D lumber waste, reclaiming it for premium wood products. We’re in business to transform the construction industry by reducing wood waste and promoting circular practices.

Company's story

Our Specialty
Innovative Robotics and AI to Reclaim C&D Lumber
Urban Machine — where innovation meets sustainability. First, AI and computer vision locate metal fasteners. Our patented end effectors remove nails, staples, and screws. Then our metal detector ensures the wood is metal-free for our customers.

1. Economic Opportunity
Using The Machine lowers the cost of reclaimed lumber processing to compete with virgin lumber pricing.

2. Circularity Drives Sustainability
Urban Machine’s robots can be found generating large volumes of locally sourced reclaimed materials. This reduces landfilling, transportation, and carbon emissions while promoting circular practices.

3. Harvesting Quality Lumber from Buildings
Urban Machine captures high-grade, dimensional lumber from buildings. This wood is prized for its hardness, straightness, and tight grains. The Machine delivers a premium product that’s higher quality than virgin.

4. Keeping the Fiber Intact
Wood waste is typically ground up and buried in landfills or sold as a low-quality product. Urban Machine offers an opportunity to return lumber to the built environment, to build with again.
Our story
Our Mission
Salvage the Past to Build the Future
We are on a mission to salvage millions of tons of wood waste from construction and demolition by robotically reclaiming it for reuse as locally sourced, premium lumber products.

Meet Our Founders
Solving Wood Waste Through AI and Robotics

Urban Machine’s founders share a vision to tackle the issue of wood waste. Eric Law’s passion for sustainability led him to seek alternatives to landfill disposal. Andrew Gillies, recognizing the potential of robotics, developed a prototype to automate metal fastener removal. Alex Thiele complemented the team by creating our AI- powered software, paving the way for an automated machine.

Where We’re Headed

Sustainably Reclaiming Wood Throughout North America
Urban Machine’s robot is mobile and sustainable! By deploying robots at resource facilities and job sites across North America, we aim to reclaim 50% of 37 million tons of wood waste — ensuring that valuable resources avoid landfills.
