Our Direct Air Capture technology captures carbon dioxide from the air at megatonne-scale.
Unlike capturing emissions from industrial flue stacks, our technology captures carbon dioxide (CO2) – the primary greenhouse gas responsible for climate change – directly out of the air around us. This can help counteract today’s unavoidable CO2 emissions, and address the large quantities of CO2 emitted in the past that remains trapped in our atmosphere.
At Carbon Engineering, we’re focused on the development of megatonne-scale Direct Air Capture technology so it can have the greatest impact on the huge climate challenge.

Our story
CE was founded in 2009 with a clear mission – to develop and commercialize a technology that captures CO2 directly out of the atmosphere at megatonne-scale.
Following years of prototyping and technology research and development, CE first piloted key elements of our solution in 2015. In 2021, we built the Carbon Engineering Innovation Centre in Squamish, British Columbia, where the team continues to test and develop our technology.
Removing the vast amounts of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere deemed necessary by scientists will require an all-hands approach in the decades to come.
Cross-industry collaboration and global partnerships will be critical in enabling the widespread deployment of Direct Air Capture.
To help meet this need, CE has joined forces with 1PointFive – a subsidiary of energy leader Occidental. Leaning into decades of project engineering and delivery expertise, 1PointFive is actively deploying commercial scale facilities while CE continues to innovate the core DAC technology, with advancements rolling out to large-scale plants.
