The Hot Lime Labs CO2 capture system converts wood waste biomass into clean CO2 for commercial greenhouses, increasing crop productivity and growth.
Carbon makes up about 45% of the dry weight of plants and is arguably the basic building block of all living matter
Plants fix carbon from CO2 in the air, but ambient levels of CO2 aren’t nearly enough to maximise plant growth, especially in high-tech greenhouses where all other growth variables can be maximised.
The benefits of CO2 enrichment on crop yield in most fruits, vegetables and flowers grown in greenhouses is well documented. Increases in crop yield of as much as 30% can be gained through enriching a greenhouse with CO2, increasing grower revenue and profits.
The graph on the right shows crop production at different CO2 concentrations. The wide band is due to variation between crops and to conditions. This graph is based on data from about 60 publications of experiments worldwide in many greenhouse crops (Source: Elly Nederhoff, 1994).
Our containerised CO2 production system allows rapid transport and installation and will enrich 3 Ha of hydroponic greenhouse to ~700ppm (or 2Ha to 1000ppm), at around half the price of existing CO2 sources where available. Increasing the number of units feeding a greenhouse can increase the concentration of CO2 within the greenhouse.

The Hot Lime Labs system is a batch process where the system extracts and captures CO2 from wood in one cycle (charge), and releases clean CO2 that has been captured in the next cycle (discharge).

Using world-leading CO2 capture technology, Hot Lime Labs produces clean and sustainable CO2 from waste wood and soon, other biomass. Our technology uses patented limestone pellets combined with novel engineering to produce clean CO2, a key plant nutrient used in high-tech hydroponic greenhouses. This allows growers to reduce their carbon footprint while being more cost-effective, providing a green alternative to the traditional fossil-based sources of CO2: natural gas and liquid CO2. As well as giving access to those growers who can’t currently get CO2!
Our Mission
Our vision is to help transition 50% of the global greenhouse industry to renewable energy in the next 30 years, reducing fossil
CO2 emissions. This will be achieved through enabling greenhouses access to low cost CO2 extracted from renewable waste biomass. Overall allowing the greenhouse to fully transition to renewable energy for both heat and CO2.
To help achieve mission we are looking to partner with biomass boiler manufacturers to offer an all in one heat and CO2 solution to growers.
