What we do

The Problem

Insulated packaging is a $15 billion dollar industry worldwide, dominated by polluting plastic products and unmet customer demands for sustainable alternatives.

The "Styro box"—one of the most universally despised products—persists primarily because it is so cheap. More than 300,000 Styrofoam boxes move through the Philippines' domestic seafood trade at any given time, although a box lasts only four trips before it is tossed and replaced. The discarded coolers quickly pile up in landfills and wash out to sea.

Seafood and produce traders hate spending money on fragile, disposable coolers, but they can’t invest in expensive, premium alternatives.

The Fortuna Cooler is insulated with upcycled coconut husk waste and lined with recycled synthetics. It is more durable and more insulative than plastic foam alternatives, competing on both price and performance.

Thoughtful design ensures that it integrates into existing supply chains, and we make it easy for suppliers to replace Styrofoam boxes with Fortuna coolers when cash is on hand and old boxes are breaking.

Company's story

Our Specialty
Easily Carries and Ships
Fortuna Coolers pack flat for easy shipping and storage.
Stop shipping air and save money on transportation.

Protects Our Air and Oceans...
Fortuna Coolers are insulated with fiber from coconut husks which are normally burned as waste. The waterproof liner is made with recycled textiles. By using upcycled materials, Fortuna prevents CO2 emissions and unhealthy smoke, and avoids plastic pollution to keep our oceans clean.

and Supports Farmers and Their Communities
We source leftover coconut husks from small-scale farmers in the Philippines. This provides them with an additional source of income and also creates rural jobs, supporting agricultural communities.
Our story
Fortuna was born in a fishing village in the Philippines where optimism is contagious and resourcefulness is a way of life.

What began as a graduate school project to improve local fish packaging became a business that’s improving lives and inspiring change from California to Lubang Island.

Today we make biodegradable packaging under the Fortuna Cools brand and sustainable consumer products like the Nutshell Cooler.

Our Mission
Harness the power of collaborative design and natural materials to make best-in-class products.

Our Vision
