What we do
Spikey®
Spikey® is our flagship product which allows farmers to grow more pasture and reduce nitrate leaching. It treats nitrate leaching and nitrous oxide emissions at the source, the urine patch, converting more nitrogen into pasture, leaching less to the environment.
A version we sell is the liquid Spikey® which utilises the target spraying of liquid fertiliser. This only sprays on inter-urine patches to allow for more precise application of fertiliser.

Our Specialty
Detection and Treatment of Urine Patches
The machine finds urine patches using the spiked disks, hence the name Spikey®. These disks are electrodes allowing a fast and accurate detection system. Spikey® is able to detect and treat these urine patches between 8 - 12 km/h depending on topography. NitroStop™ is applied to urine patches which consistently increases grass growth up to 25% and reduces nitrate leaching from 10-20% on paddock scale)
Target Spraying of Liquid Fertiliser (Sprays Only On Inter Urine Patches)
Spikey® has taken the possibilities of fertiliser spreading to a new level with technology designed to deliver precise and accurate application of liquid fertiliser. Using the existing Spikey® algorithm, the machine is now able to target spray where the fertiliser needs to be i.e., spraying only on inter-urine patches. As a result, around 10% on average of liquid fertiliser is saved on top of the increase in grass growth and reduction of nitrate leaching, leading to an increase in nutrient use efficiency and less waste

Our story
We Are Pastoral Robotics
Loss of nutrients for the farm system is one of the biggest threats to farming. Nutrients make things grow, they cost money and when they escape the farm they harm the environment. Whether this harm is from carcinogens, algal blooms, smog or global warming it all represents a loss to the farmer and the environment. Pastoral Robotics’s mission is to keep the nutrients in the pastoral farm ecosystem, where it is wanted, and out of the environment, where they are not wanted. This is a real win win.
Nitrogen, phosphorous and other fertilisers and trace elements have enabled agriculture to feed the world, however their application has at best been crude with broadacre application from large trucks and aeroplanes. Today Pastoral Robotics is leading the move towards precision application we see a move towards precision applications, Spikey® developed by Pastoral Robotics takes precision application to a new level. The Spikey® technology does two things:
Target Spraying of Liquid Fertiliser (Applies Fertiliser Only On Inter Urine Patches)
Detects And Treats The Source Of Nitrogen Losses (Urine Patches)
The Spikey® technology fits in the farm routine, in fact many pastoral dairy and intensive beef farmers already apply nitrogen daily in what is known as a ‘follow the cows’ basis, that is when the cows are moved out of the paddock to a new paddock, (typically daily), the nitrogen is applied to the recently grazed pasture using simple tow behind technology. Pastoral Robotics recognised the opportunity to create a machine, Spikey®, that does all this and more.
