Our Novel Pesticide Creation Method
We are developing molecularly-targeted agrochemicals by designing structurally-based drugs that target proteins that do not exist in humans. We compare the genes necessary for survival that are written in the DNA of humans, plants, and pests, and identify enzymes that are unique to the target organism to be eliminated. Then, a compound that binds specifically to that enzyme is designed using a computer, and by inhibiting the activity necessary for survival, it is possible to pinpoint the target to be eliminated. Thus, the pesticide development process can be transformed into a theoretical design based on biological information.
Our story
Concept
Agrodesign Studio, Inc. is engaged in the research and development of agrochemicals that are both safe and effective through our unique agrochemical creation process based on bioscience technology.

Mission
Development of new molecularly targeted agrochemicals that clarify the scientific evidence for agrochemicals
Organic farming without pesticides is practiced in only 0.2% of the farmland in Japan because of its lower yield, and pesticides are still used in most of the other farmland. The conventional agrochemical development process has been the “bukkake search method,” in which synthesized compounds that are agrochemical candidates are added to pests, weeds, and soil bacteria, and substances that show effects on as many targets as possible are employed. However, this method could not guarantee safety for humans because the mechanism of action of the chemicals was not clear.

We have adopted a novel method of pesticide design based on the structure of the target substance in order to realize the following two elements required for the next generation of pesticides: 1) improved safety and 2) a novel mechanism of action that is less likely to cause drug resistance.
