What we do
We're using CRISPR and other technology to transform lives and supply chains.
At Pairwise, genetics are at the heart of everything that we do.
We are one of the first companies in the world to commercialize gene edited consumer food and agricultural products. We passionately believe that technology should be used to create new healthy food options for people, and we are harnessing one of the most powerful R&D advances in a generation -- CRISPR -- to develop compelling products that benefit customers and growers alike.
Built on our proprietary CRISPR IP and custom tools, our team of geneticists, agronomists, data scientists, and market experts deploy our unique FulcrumTM platform to conceptualize and deliver product solutions in plants and production systems.
Our Technology
At Pairwise, we are always evolving our technology, mobilizing our innovation engine to solve complex challenges for society and industry alike. Anchored by our best-in-class Fulcrum platform, custom tools developed in-house, and deep technical and agronomic expertise in over 60 crops, Pairwise is leading the way in genetics-based innovation in plants and plant-based systems.
Company's story
A complete suite of novel technologies and proprietary tools for applying CRISPR technology to unlock unique, commercially viable products with differentiated plant genetics.
We have discovered that it takes only the smallest change to the tiniest of details to realize the epic potential of your business.
We call this The Seismic Tweak.
Through tiny alterations to a plant’s natural genetic sequence, we are able to deliver huge economic, social, and environmental change for people and businesses across the world.
And we do this faster and with more success than anyone else.
With Fulcrum, you can:
1. Change Flavor
like making mustard greens taste less like wasabi and more like lettuce
2. Improve Yield
like increasing beans per soybean pod or the amount of fruit on a blackberry bush
3. Reshape Architecture
like adapting plants for indoor agriculture or other growing environments, or turning trees into bushes
4. Adjust Plant Composition
like increasing protein or healthy fat content in ingredient crops
5. Create Natural Resistance
like protecting plants from insects and diseases
6. Adapt for Climate Change
like developing drought or heat resistant varieties
Our expert team uses CRISPR and gene editing techniques to transform plants and the production systems that are built upon them. Pairwise uses a combination of exclusive intellectual property and in-house designed tools to deliver gene edited products faster and more effectively.
And, with our gene edited varieties being grown in the field in four different crops to-date, we’re expecting to bring the first CRISPR-edited food products to the market in the U.S. this year.
Mission
to build a healthier world through better fruits and vegetables.
Vision
to build a food and agriculture company that uses technology to break down the barriers that keep us from eating fruits and vegetables.
From the team near our headquarters in the innovation hot spot of the Research Triangle Park in Durham, North Carolina, to our remote, home-based colleagues across the U.S., to our growing team in California, Pairwise is comprised of the best scientists, agronomists, and functional business experts.
Our team is made up creative problem-solvers – whether they are solving problems in the lab, in the field, or on a video call.
We have an active group of employee-run committees focused on such topics as Volunteerism, Inclusion, and Sustainability that provide opportunities for our team-members to get involved in the local community.
We also offer flexible PTO, so all can take the time that they need to maintain work-life balance.
