BioPhenolics is working on bulk production of aromatic bio-chemicals from inedible biomass using smart cell development technology, moving away from conventional petroleum-based processes in order to realize a decarbonized society. We are already engaged in joint R&D with several companies, and have raised 150 million yen in funding from ANRI GREEN in order to accelerate the hiring of human resources and R&D. With this funding, we will open our Tsukuba Research Center in Tokodai, Tsukuba City, and install a bench-scale fermenter (90L) and downstream purification facilities to establish mass production technology for aromatic biochemicals, and establish a system to provide kilo-scale samples.

BioPhenolics was founded in 2023 by Takaya, a professor at Tsukuba University who has been conducting research on aromatic metabolism of microorganisms and its social implementation for more than 20 years, and Nukui, a representative with experience in successful mass production at major chemical companies and bio-startups.
