What we do

We help people learn how to grow delicious mushrooms at home from recycled coffee grounds.

Company's story

Our Specialty
Circularity!
We collect coffee waste from local restaurants and hotels, we grow delicious oyster mushrooms (Hiratake) in an urban farm with a controlled atmosphere environment, and we sell fresh mushrooms to the hotels and restaurants where we collect the coffee.
More circularity!
We want everyone to do the same: with our growing kits, everyone can grow their own mushrooms in their kitchen, turning their morning coffee into an SDG daily routine, by applying the circular economy principles to mushroom cultivation.
Our story
Helsieni started in Finland in 2016 with a simple idea: waste should be considered as a resource.
Coffee waste is an abundant and underused resource in Finland (who holds the record of coffee consumption per capita).
We also decided to refurbish single-use plastic boxes used in the food service to create a growing kit as a consumer product.
We are now expanding the idea to Japan!
